Investors worldwide seemed to put hopes in signs that the Omicron variant’s impact on global economic growth might not prove as punishing as the previous waves of the pandemic, and in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement that talks with the U.S. on security and on Ukraine would begin in January.
