International stocks trading in New York closed lower on Friday.
The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts ticked down 0.6% to 141.56. The European index edged down 0.4% to 137.68. The Asian index retreated 0.8% to 162.47. The Latin American index moved down 0.4% to 181.83, while the emerging-markets index lost 1.1% to 271.49.
Rogers Communications Inc. was among the companies whose ADRs traded actively.
The Canadian communications company's ADRs rose 4% following a decision by a Canadian court allowing a proposed merger between it and Shaw Communications Inc. to proceed.
Shaw Communications' shares rose 9.1% in connection with the news. Canada's antitrust regulator plans to appeal the decision by the court, which the companies said they were disappointed by.
