Raul Rodriguez, a Miami-based digital currency exchanger, has pleaded guilty to operating an unlicensed money transmitting business, according to the Justice Department Tuesday.
From 2016 through 2022, Rodriguez exchanged at least $5,047,462 in digital currency on the LocalBitcoins.com platform, said the DOJ. His customers included an online narcotics trafficker and a professional money launderer.
Such conduct violates 18 U.S.C. § 1960. Rodriguez faces up to five years in federal prison, the agency said.
