It was known that Amari Cooper’s time with the Dallas Cowboys was likely nearing its end, but not many expected the way it would end.
The Cowboys traded Cooper to the Cleveland Browns on Saturday in exchange for a sixth-round pick swap and an additional fifth-round pick, a source confirmed to The Dallas Morning News. The move, more importantly for the Cowboys, opens up $16 million in cap space.
Here is some of the national reaction to the Cowboys’ stunning move.
The #Cowboys didn't see Amari Cooper as a fit in their offense...well then there's a problem with your got-damn offense

For Amari Cooper’s contract, would rather draft a receiver tbh

Thinking back on it: Was trading for Amari Cooper worth it?

Cowboys have roster moves to come at wide receiver in the days and weeks ahead. But arguably the most important development will be that of CeeDee Lamb in Year 3. He can be special, and they need him to be. Important offseason for Lamb, who has a new WR coach (Robert Prince).

Wow! The Cowboys traded Amari Cooper away for two “possibles” in a Spades game. Considering Day 3 picks are considered developmental prospects, the Cowboys simply wanted to move on from the veteran WR. No other way to say it.. #NFL https://t.co/xnMbzZFPvi

Dallas trading away Amari Cooper for a 5th rounder so they can pay Zeke & his $18,220,000 cap hit is glorious to witness

Trading Amari Cooper to sign Michael Gallup to a deal ($13M/year) makes no sense.

Amari Cooper is a dome receiever. His game is based on speed and precision.
The Cleveland fit feels like a bad one.
Look at his splits on turf vs. grass and cold vs. warm weather.

Last year’s Cowboys media guide is officially out of season. Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup had two seasons together in Dallas. Dak Prescott was injured five games into the first. Gallup then missed half of last season. Group only scratched the surface. pic.twitter.com/rbGpRpUPq2

I didn’t get trading a first round pick for Amari Cooper in 2018. I was wrong. He was worth it. I don’t get trading Amari now to the Browns. Hope I’m again wrong.
— Will Cain (@willcain) March 12, 2022
Amari Cooper started expressing frustration with Dak and the Cowboys offense last season. I’m curious how this works out with Cleveland.
Also last season OBJ (Sr.) put out a lowlight video of Baker missing him on throws and not looking his way— the Browns released him…

Cowboys trade Amari Cooper to Browns: As a Cowboy fan, I will not miss him. As a Baker fan, I say he still needs a legit No.-1 receiver, especially on the road.
— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) March 12, 2022
During his time in Dallas, Amari Cooper was a top 10 receiver by every major WR measure.
